Catheterisation - Urinary catheterisation is considered when urinary retention/bladder outlet obstructions are present and drainage and/or investigation is required.

Urinary catheterisation carries a high risk of infection that can be directly related to the method of insertion and duration of catheter use.  Sterility is paramount to minimise this complication of catheterisation.
